Youth Development League By-Laws1. All players, grade level third through eigth, are eligible to participate on a league team. Third grade players must turn eight years old before or during their current school calendar year to be eligible. . 2. Players that have obtained an interdistrict transfer to another school district can play for either school, however, their first obligation is to the school of current attendance. 3. If a player wishes to participate on a YDL team, that a player must sign-up to play at their school of attendance. If their school of attendance does not participate in YDL sign-ups, players must sign up at an adjacent school district or their school residence. If their school of attendance does not offer a team in that division, the school representative will notify that player of their option to become a “free agent”. The player, with guidance from the original school representative, can make themselves available to an adjacent school district offering a YDL team of their division. 4. If a player wishes to participate on a YDL team but their school of attendance has a team or teams with full rosters and that school cannot sign-up additional players to form multiple teams with eight player rosters, the school representative may advise that player of the option to become a “free agent”. 5. Players may be registered with only one YDL team at a time. 6. Players may be added to a teams roster from a lower division if that team does not have 7 players at the start of a game. Players should be solicited from the same school that the team represents however; players from another school may be approached. Additional lower division players may only be added to bring the total roster number to no more than eight and that team will be expected to play by the equal segment rules with the additional players. Players must be registered with the ARD-YDL and cannot be added laterally. This is considered a special circumstance, and if the problem persists, it will be reviewed by the ARD-YDL board. 7. Players from lower age divisions may be added to upper age division teams at the beginning of a season provided that such action is discussed between the two divisions and no harm will be rendered to the lower age division or the players in question. 8. Final registration date will be determined by ARD each year by October 1st. 9. The board shall consist of ARD staff and a representative from each school or school district. 10. Board members are selected based on several criteria, including references, years of experience and their availability. 11. Additionally, AAU regulations that are not covered on the ARD-YDL by-laws will be adhered to. 12. Players may petition the board, in the case of extreme hardship, for a change of team, school, or division.
